Who the OWS movement should be protesting
The U.S. government has vast needs. We need to put more people to work. We need to keep money in families’ pockets. We need to build roads and pipes. We need help local and state governments. With all of these needs, you’d probably hope for some free money. That’s funny, because, as Ezra Klein wrote this morning, the U.S. government can borrow money at rates as close to “free” as we’ve ever seen. “As of Friday, the federal government could borrow for five years at a real interest rate of -0.7 percent,” he wrote. That means that “that once inflation is taken into account, the bank is paying you to borrow money. That just doesn’t happen. But right now, it’s happening for the United States government.”
This is what pisses me off…The Young people of this movement have the right idea but do not truly understand the inner workings of what’s really going on. They are up in arms with the 1% when it’s Congress and the all the lobbyist in Washington that we should be protesting.
It is Congress that wants to us to go after the 1% and give them the power to enforce a martial state so we lose even more of the dwindling freedoms then we already have.
Congress repealed the act in the late 1990’s that gave Wall street the power to use the loopholes that caused the prime mortgage crisis and start our country into the worst recession ever.
Anyone would use the advantages given, because quite honestly if you knew you could use a specific loophole to make yourself and company more profitable any person with good business sense would take advantage of the system.
It’s not even about Corporate greed, I work in this industry day in and day out.
Many of the people that once had substantial wealth now are in the same place as the rest of America…..I do not have any love loss for the law enforcement of this country but I will not throw every single “cop” in the same category as the the people using excessive force/pepper spray….Just like not everyone with wealth is a greedy asshole…or that every person in the OWS movement is just there to create faux anarchy and chaos…
I guess my point is this….If we as a people want to use this swelling movement to evoke change then they should go to the source. Congress. March on Washington, protest Capital Hill….going after people that took advantage of the system does nothing, but going after the people that gave them that power does.
